This is a picture of my older sister Kirsten and me. Most people do not expect us to be sisters; we have even had to get out our driver’s licenses to prove it. We are exact opposites, black and white, I am five feet ten inches and she is five feet two inches. As you can see Kirsten has nearly black hair, brown eyes, and olive skin; me on the other hand, I have blond hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. Kirsten is really loud and outgoing and never stops talking; I am shy and quiet and hardly speak a word if I do not know you. I grew up dancing and loved everything girly and pretty, Kirsten played basketball and soccer and had a tantrum every time she had to put on a dress or skirt. There are so many more qualities about us that are very different. The reason for our difference is that Kirsten is adopted. When our parents first got married they tried for years to have children but were unsuccessful, finally after about six or seven years they were able to adopt my sister. Growing up it was never a secret where she came from and even though we were born from different mothers we never felt like we were not really sisters or my parents were different from her parents. We have become very close through the years and know how lucky we are to have each other. Because of this I have become a large advocate for adoption. I do not feel that enough people see it as an option for an unwanted pregnancy and think that abortion is the best option for them. I want people to know that even though they may not feel a baby is best for them for whatever reason there are so many families like mine who want a child and will love and care for him/her like they gave birth to him/her themselves. My parents and I love my sister so much and could never imagine life without her!
